Lille star and rumoured Barcelona target Lucas Chevalier has hinted at his interest in departing France for one of the continent’s leading clubs.
The name of goalkeeper Chevalier has of course emerged as a prominent one in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last couple of weeks.
This comes amid the widespread understanding that the Frenchman has been identified as a leading transfer target on the part of Barcelona.
The Camp Nou brass are on the lookout for reinforcements between the posts with a view to next season, owing to all of the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, Wojciech Szczęsny’s short-term contract, and uncertainty surrounding Iñaki Peña’s readiness to take up no.1 duties.
Chevalier, long making a name for himself as one of the standout goalkeepers in his home country of France, has in turn been earmarked by Deco and co. as a chief option.
All associated with Barcelona, in turn, will no doubt be intrigued to hear of Chevalier, this week, speaking out on his future.
During an exchange with the media whilst on international duty with France, the 23-year-old sent something of a come-and-get-me plea to Europe’s leading clubs, in explaining:
“We are in a very big nation, all the players play for very big European clubs. Lille is a very big European club, but there are steps above it. It’s true that when you play in very big clubs, you put on bigger shows. And they look at you more, you have more demands.”
Pressed further on the importance of lining out for a top club when it comes to his no.1 hopes with France, Chevalier continued:
“It is true that the number 1 position depends on a very good club. You have to have that lucidity and work too.”
