Paris Saint-Germain initially took a short-term approach by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season, but his future is now settled, with the German club securing him permanently.

Back in September, Christian Falk reported that both Manchester City and Liverpool were closely monitoring Simons’ situation. Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United had also shown interest earlier last summer, reflecting the Dutch midfielder’s growing reputation among Europe’s top clubs.

More recently, CaughtOffside suggested that Manchester United might have the edge over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.

Last week, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Simons has officially joined RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer from PSG. The deal is worth €80 million, including add-ons, with an initial fee of €55 million and a sell-on clause.

Romano also mentioned that Simons’ contract runs until June 2027, though he could be on the move again as soon as this summer, with several clubs already keeping an eye on him.

The key demand Xavi Simons could want from an interested club

Simons’ future at Leipzig might be short-term as the upcoming summer transfer window will allow the German side to sell the player since there won’t be a shortage of suitors.

However, one key demand could determine where the young star plays long-term as Football Transfer’s Robin Bairner stated on the latest PSG Talking podcast.

“When you’re speaking about players in the Bundesliga, inevitably, you talk about the possibility of them moving to Bayern Munich. He is certainly a player who could slot in at the Allianz Arena. If Munich creates space for him, it could be through a move for Jamal Musiala, for example, who was linked to Real Madrid in the summer and a potential blockbuster transfer. I think Munich will inevitably be part of that conversation.

“We know that many Premier League clubs are interested in him. How he fits into the Premier League, I’m not entirely sure. But we’ve seen the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and even Chelsea, to some extent, show interest in Xavi Simons. A whole bunch of big clubs across Europe will be floating around and interested in him. It may come down to which club is most willing to give him the most game time and fit with what he wants more than anything else.”
