On Sunday afternoon, Bayern Munich hosted Eintracht Frankfurt on match day 23 of the current Bundesliga season.
For the task at hand, Vincent Kompany opted for a line up of; Neuer - Laimer, Dier, Kim, Ito - Kimmich, Pavlovic - Olise, Musiala, Sane - Muller.
Just before the ten-minute mark, Bayern should have scored. Thomas Muller had a shot blocked before Michael Olise struck from an even better position, but both players couldn't keep their shots on target.
After a quarter of an hour, Bayern had another huge opportunity to open the scoring, but Jamal Musiala could not convert from close range, having been found by Leroy Sane - with the ball being cleared off the line.
Just before halftime, Joshua Kimmich had to be replaced by Leon Goretzka. By far the most overplayed player in the squad. A muscle injury for the German midfielder looked inevitable. Playing 90 minutes in batterings of RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim were always going to end in disaster.
However, in stoppage time, Bayern would take the lead - with Olise firing home from point blank range, having been well found by Sane. Die Roten would head into the half time interval one goal to the good.
Nine minutes into the second half, Bayern really should have a second of the game, but Kim Min-jae's header from inside the six-yard box was saved.
After the hour mark, a header from Eric Dier was saved. The ball was parried back into the danger zone, allowing Hiroki Ito to fire home for his first-ever Bayern Munich goal, The Japanese defender was replaced by Alphonso Davies, while Muller made way for Harry Kane.
There was just under a quarter of an hour remaining when Sane won the ball back high up the pitch, but he couldn't find the target. Good work to win it back, but he has to be scoring from that range.
With around seven minutes remaining, Jamal Musiala went on one of his solo runs, before firing a left-footed effort past Kevin Trapp. The keeper may have wanted to do a bit better, but a great goal nonetheless. He picked up a knock while scoring the goal. Kompany brought Musiala and Olise off to bring on Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry.
In the final seconds of the game, Gnabry put the icing on the cake, adding a fourth goal from close range, having been found by fellow late substitute Coman.
