After significant developments on Eric Dier’s future at Bayern Munich this week, the Bavarian club will be in the market to sign a new central defender. The English defender has decided to leave Munich at the end of the season to join Monaco on a free transfer.

Dier was in talks with Bayern over a new deal. However, Monaco managed to sway him by offering a longer deal and more game time next season. Bayern are yet to confirm his decision, but multiple reports in Germany and England have confirmed Dier’s impending move to Monaco.

The former Spurs defender has been an astute signing for Bayern. In the last 18 months, Dier has stepped up whenever the team has needed him. Even though he played less in Hinrunde this season, Dier got ample opportunities in the second half of the season due to injuries in the defensive department of the squad.

Bayern will have to replace Dier in the squad since they need more cover in central defense. It does look like Bayern are looking at one of their older transfer targets to strengthen their options in defense for next season.

Bayern Munich looking at the option of signing Jonathan Tah

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern are seriously considering the option of signing Jonathan Tah at the end of the season. The German center-back will be a free agent in the summer as he decided against signing a new deal at Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern tried to sign Tah in the last summer transfer window. They had agreed personal terms with the German international but couldn’t find an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the transfer fee. Die Roten had cooled interest in him, and FC Barcelona emerged as the front-runner to sign Tah on a free transfer in the last few months.

The Catalan club held concrete talks with Tah’s representatives, but nothing has been signed between both parties. Bayern still have a chance to sign him if they move quickly in the next few days and offer a contract to the German defender.

Real Madrid and Manchester United have also been linked with a summer move for Tah. The Spanish club could hold an edge over other suitors since they are also looking to seal a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for head coach Xabi Alonso.

Tah will certainly strengthen Bayern’s defense. He has been one of the best Bundesliga defenders in the last few seasons. It remains to be seen if Tah is convinced about moving to Munich after the Bavarian club failed to agree a fee with Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
