On Friday night, Bayern Munich will welcome VfB Stuttgart to the Allianz Arena on match day 24 of the Bundesliga season.
Needless to say, this is another huge game - and a must-win if Bayern want to keep healthy lead over Bayer Leverkusen in the title race. Let's see how VfB Stuttgart are shaping up ahead of the game
Last season, Stuttgart finished second placed in the Bundesliga, even finishing above Bayern Munich - as they made huge strides from the two consecutive relegation play-off contests that had preceded the 2023/24 campaign.
The 2024/25 season has not been quite as successful, though there are reasons for that. In the summer, they lost Waldemar Anton and Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund, as well as Hiroko Ito to Bayern - three players that were key to a successful 23/24 season.
Despite a drop-off, they are not too far away, currently sitting in seventh place with 36 points from 23 games - six points away from third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite losing key players, they were able to keep hold of highly rated manager Sebastian Hoeness, who has done a wonderful job at turning around their fortunes.
In terms of dangermen, Nick Woltemade and Ermedin Demirovic are their top scorers in the league this season, with eight each. The former has done so in just 907 minutes, notching at a rate of a goal every 113 minutes. Deniz Undav is not far behind those two - with seven goals.
Stuttgart's best players are in the center of the park. Firstly, former Bayern player and Germany international Angelo Stiller continues to impress and attract attention for his all-round displays in the middle of the park. His ten big chances created are a team most for the Bundesliga this season (Stats courtesy- Sofascore).
Meanwhile, Frenchman Enzo Millot is also a top midfield player, with his energy and bite in the middle key to Stuttgart's success. Finally, in terms of key players - a familiar face in goal - on loan Bayern man Alexander Nubel.
Although Bayern won the reverse fixture 4-0, Friday will be a unique challenge since the game is away from Allianz Arena. The first half of that game was very competitive, and it took a long-range Harry Kane effort to give Bayern the lead and open the game up. Though still quite good - Kompany's side are not as good on the road as they are at home.
