Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the Bundesliga top four after continuing their strong run of form with a 1-1 draw against Bayern Munich this past weekend.

Matchday 12 of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season is in the books, and the top four battle is heating up with several teams in contention for the Champions League qualification spots. While Bayern Munich currently hold a comfortable four point lead at the top over second placed Eintracht Frankfurt, several teams are in the hunt for third and fourth place in the table.

Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are currently third, three points clear of fifth placed Borussia Dortmund and seven points behind Bayern. While the free-falling RB Leipzig are fourth and only have a one point cushion over fifth place.

SC Freiburg in sixth are level on points with Borussia Dortmund, with Mainz 05 up to seventh and only one point behind after making an excellent start to their campaign. Other teams looking to get into the top four include VfL Wolfsburg, VfB Stuttgart, and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

On the other end of the table, VfL Bochum are rooted to the bottom with just two points from their opening 12 matches. Newly promoted Holstein Kiel have five points to their name and also sit in the relegation zone. FC Heidenheim, after a strong start to the season, have lost their last four Bundesliga matches and are down to 16th.

FC St. Pauli claimed a vital win over Kiel on matchday 12 to open up a six point cushion over the automatic relegation spots. Also in relegation trouble are TSG Hoffenheim, who recently parted ways with Pellegrino Matarazzo and appointed Christian Ilzer as head coach.

There are three more Bundesliga matchdays to be played before the league takes a three-week long winter break.
