On a bitingly cold Manchester day, Manchester City delivered an almost perfect performance against Leicester. Goals from Leila Ouahabi, Kerolin Nicoli and Bunny Shaw ensured Manchester City’s progression to the next round of the competition. 17-year-old Nelly Las pulled a late consolation back for the Foxes on an otherwise difficult afternoon.

How it went

The game had a comparatively slow start compared to many of City’s recent outings. Leila Ouahabi finally broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, following up on a series of blocked shots. Kerolin doubled City’s lead in the 29th minute, bagging her debut goal for her new side. Slotting the ball home from a tight angle, the No.14 gave her side a comfortable lead heading into the break.

Bunny Shaw makes stunning return

The second half saw Gareth Taylor make four changes with Bunny Shaw returning to the squad. The City striker had been subject to racist and misogynistic abuse following City’s league meeting with Arsenal, leading the Jamaican international to withdraw from the Sky Blues midweek squad.

The 58th minute gave Shaw her first goal following her return from injury. After a promising phase of play, the No.21 headed the ball home to further extend her sides’ lead. Alongside her attacking work, Shaw was also heavily involved with City’s defensive work making several key clearances in the final minutes of the game.

Nelly Las pulled one back for the Foxes in the 82nd minute, beating Ayaka Yamashita from close range. The goal marks Las’ second FA Cup goal having already scored against Stoke City earlier in the campaign.

The win sees Manchester City progress to the quarter-finals whilst Leicester bow out of the competition in the fifth round.
