Burnley face some key decisions in the coming months about which players they're going to hand new contracts to

While securing promotion is at the forefront of Burnley's minds, they must also give some thought to four players whose contracts are expiring in the summer.

With so much uncertainty over what division they'll be playing in next season, deciding on who to keep and let go is a thankless task right now for Burnley, but they must start to put plans in place for both eventualities or else they run the risk of losing at least one key member of the squad.

The Clarets will hope they're rubbing shoulders with the elite next season as their goal is ultimately to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, in which case, most of their out-of-contract players would depart.

But in the worst case scenario, the Clarets will be lining up in the second tier next season, and at least three of the four players due to depart in the summer would be useful in the Championship.

Josh Brownhill

Josh Brownhill's contract dilemma is probably the biggest decision Burnley have to make out of the four stars set to depart.

He's a regular starter for the Clarets and his impact on the side cannot be understated, not to mention he's also their top-scorer and club captain, so retaining his services is imperative.

The Manchester United academy graduate certainly won't be short of suitors if he's to depart in the summer, with several Premier League clubs linked with a move, while Turkish side Trabzonspor are also believed to be admirers.

Tying him down to a new deal would be massive for the club irrespective of the division, and with Brownhill previously stating he'd be happy to stay at Turf Moor, it seems a deal is possible.

Another player Burnley would be wise to try and keep hold of is Connor Roberts, who again has been at the heart of Burnley's recent success.

By no means the perfect modern-day full-back as he lacks the pace and athleticism that so many defenders have these days, Roberts makes up for that in technical ability, with his game understanding and ability to drift in-field something that has helped Burnley out this season.

What the Clarts decide to do with Roberts probably depends what league they're playing in next season.

Would they want to attack the top flight with a Roberts, who'll be nearly 30, at full-back? Probably not.

Is he good enough for the Championship at that age? Most definitely.

This one will be a heartbreaker for Burnley fans, but in the sunset of his career, it's hard to see Jay Rodriguez prolonging his spell at the club.

The boyhood Clarets fan had a stay of execution when he was handed a one-year extension for this season, but you have to imagine his time at the club is now coming to an end.

A bit-part player this season, the fact Zian Flemming is being shoehorned into the striker role while Rodriguez is sat on the bench is sure to sting, and even if he was to be offered another deal, it's hard to imagine he'd sign it.

If he does leave, no fan will wish him anything but the best of luck as a career which saw him capped by England draws to a close.

Nathan Redmond

It's hard to really pass too much judgement on Redmond, as his time in a claret and blue shirt has been nothing short of a disaster, with injuries blighting his time in the North West.

Signed on a free transfer in 2023, Redmond has spent most of his Burnley career on the sidelines, playing a grand total of 300 minutes since he moved.

His deal is up in the summer, although the club do have an option of a further year in his contract.

Given his injury record though, it's hard to believe the club will take up that option and he looks set to depart Turf Moor this summer.
