After a tough start to the campaign under former boss Erol Bulut, Cardiff City appear to be a stronger side since Omer Riza took over as manager earlier this season.

A number of players were underperforming and have shown signs of real improvement in recent months, especially over the last run of games where Cardiff have remained undefeated.

Cardiff fans will be hopeful that their season is heading in the right direction, having shown ambition during the summer transfer window. That said, they may wish to add further to their squad this month and build a team capable of punching further up the division.

With less than a week to go in the transfer window, they are running out of time to make additions FLW's Cardiff City fan pundit Jack Price has had his say on what he would like to see them do during the final stretch of the window.

He said: "It's very interesting, because Cardiff have had a real upturn of late. We are now eight games unbeaten after beating Derby County over the weekend.

"Things are looking up. You don't want to get too ahead of yourself and say that the squad is perfect and that we are guaranteed to stay in this league, but things are definitely a lot rosier.

"It was only a month ago that we thought this month we'd have to rip everything up and start again to really overhaul this squad.

"Obviously, only as much as you can mid-season. But so many players have come on since, and that has definitely decreased the necessity.

"Of course, we need to touch up in terms of quality in some areas. The big pressing concern for me, and something I have spoken about at length for this month, is the need for more quality out wide and a different profile to what we have already got.

"I think Chris Willock is the most talented left-sided winger at the club, with Cian Ashford filling in on the other side, who is great. But I don't think Willock is maybe the profile we really need all the time, particularly in a lot of games.

"We need someone who is very direct, very good at stretching in transition, who's got a lot of pace to stretch a defence, and run at players a little bit more.

"You don't really see that from Willock. But we also need somebody with a bit more end product because there isn't a great goal return from our wide players.

"I think there is a pretty poor goal return across the squad if you take out Callum Robinson. There are a few players that I'd be targeting and I'd be looking at the Premier League loan market.

"Sam Amo-Ameyaw at Southampton is available. He played a blinder against us in the EFL Cup. Everybody would have said Louie Barry is perfect for them but it was probably not ever realistic."

Versatility and athleticism are required for Omer Riza

Jack would also like more speed and players who can plug plenty of gaps, even if that is to get more out of another player in the Cardiff squad in doing so. He added: "Another player that I would like from the Premier League, but this would likely be a permanent deal, is Harvey Vale [pictured above].

"He can play anywhere down that left side but he is most comfortable as a winger in a 4-3-3. That's where he played lots of his youth football at Chelsea. He's a serious prospect and had a great year at Bristol Rovers on loan and is now available for a transfer this month.

"He's coming to the end of his contract and a few clubs are interested, including the likes of QPR, West Brom, Sunderland. But he would fit the bill for what we need. He's very athletic and dynamic.

"I don't think that is a profile we really have in the wide areas, apart from maybe Cian Ashford and Ollie Tanner. He is also really creative and has excellent crossing ability.

"With us signing a player like Yousef Salech, I think he could complement that really well. So, definitely a left-sided winger, but also a central midfielder.

"There is one, Sivert Mannsverk who is reportedly coming in from Ajax, so we will have to wait and see on that one. He doesn't appear to fit the bill of what we need, although I can't say I've seen loads of him.
