Carlo Ancelotti is expected to remain in charge of Real Madrid until the end of the La Liga season, with a report revealing he will depart before this summer's Club World Cup.

A bitterly disappointing season, which will end without silverware despite the summer arrival of Kylian Mbappe, has seen Ancelotti facing immense pressure for months, and it was revealed in the aftermath of Madrid's shock elimination from the Champions League that Madrid had finally decided to part ways with the Italian.

It was first suggested that Ancelotti would be relieved of his duties after the Copa del Rey final, which ended in another defeat at the hands of Barcelona, but The Athletic claim a summer departure is most likely.

Ancelotti is said to have already privately communicated to some members of the dressing room that he will leave this summer. Talks with those in charge, including president Florentino Perez, will finalise the details of his departure in the coming weeks.

The Italian is under contract until 2026 and so an agreement will have to be reached to cut ties any earlier.

As it stands, the plan is for Ancelotti to see out the domestic season before leaving control of the team to somebody else for the Club World Cup. Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso remains the dream appointment but, like Ancelotti, he is under contract until 2026 and so an agreement with the German side will need to be reached.

Madrid could turn to an interim boss while they negotiate for Alonso. Former manager Santiago Solari, who returned to the club as a director in 2022, is being lined up for an emergency stint in the dugout.

Ancelotti, meanwhile, has his sights set on becoming the next Brazil coach and is expected to ink a deal to take charge of the Selecao at the 2026 World Cup.
