Long-serving Milan stalwart Theo Hernandez offered a sincere apology to his Milan teammates after a dismal Champions League exit. After running his side into the abyss on Tuesday night, he took to Instagram to apologize for undoing a decent team effort.
Milan headed into the second leg at the San Siro trailing Feyenoord by a goal ‘to nil.’ However, ex-Feyenoord ace Santiago Gimenez drew the Rossoneri level in the first minute. Little did anyone know it would be Milan’s only goal in this two-legged tie.
Milan couldn’t find the net again despite dominating proceedings and creating numerous scoring chances. Hernandez’s expulsion early in the second half completely changed the game’s dynamics. The French left-back picked up a bizarre yellow card on the stroke of halftime.
Indeed, referee Szymon Marciniak booked the Milan star for a cynical foul on the halfway line. Only six minutes after the break, Hernandez received the second booking for a cheap attempt to draw a penalty. His mindless dive haunted Milan as Feyenoord leveled the score in the 73rd minute.
“Football is unpredictable: it offers us great joy, but also painful moments,” the Milan ace wrote. “I feel immense frustration today. I apologize to my teammates for having left them down to 10 men and apologize to the fans who always support us.
