FLW takes a look at a couple of players that Charlton Athletic will want to keep hold of in January.

Charlton Athletic will need to strengthen in January if they are going to stand a chance of reaching the play-offs this season, so any of their better players leaving the club during the transfer window would be a cause for concern.

The Addicks have been underwhelming so far this season and currently find themselves 12th in the League One table, five points adrift of the top six, albeit with a game in hand on a few of the teams above them.

Nathan Jones' side have an important run of fixtures coming up ahead of the January transfer window, with winnable games against Crawley Town, Northampton Town and Cambridge United all included in their six League One clashes before the turn of the year.

Jones will want to see his side stay within touching distance of the play-offs between now and January, with the upcoming transfer window providing a much-needed opportunity to add some creativity and quality to a squad that has scored just 17 goals in 16 league games so far.

While Charlton need to make some new signings to be in with a chance of putting themselves in the promotion picture during the second half of the campaign, it is also important that they do not lose any of their more important players in January.

Let's take a look at two players that the Addicks will be particularly concerned about losing in the first month of 2025.

Miles Leaburn

Promising striker Miles Leaburn, who celebrated his 21st birthday this week, is one player that Charlton will be desperate to keep hold of in January.

The academy graduate has previously attracted transfer interest from a host of top-flight clubs in England and abroad, with Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa all having been linked with a move for him since he broke into the first-team at The Valley, while an unnamed Bundesliga club had an offer in excess of £3 million rejected in the summer of 2023.

Leaburn has featured regularly for the Addicks under Jones since he returned from a serious hamstring injury earlier this season, and the Welshman will no doubt want to keep hold of a striker that has the potential to develop into a prolific goalscorer.

In October, Charlton triggered a one-year extension to Leaburn's contract that will keep him in SE7 until 2026, although the club must still be slightly concerned that they might receive approaches to sign him in January.

Lloyd Jones

Lloyd Jones was a standout player for Charlton during the early months of this season, before he picked up an injury that has ruled him out of the Addicks' last six games in League One.

The defender has the highest FotMob rating out of every player in the Charlton squad so far this term, and Nathan Jones will undoubtedly be keen to see him return to partner Alex Mitchell at the back as soon as possible.

Jones' deal is due to expire next summer, and while he has previously stated that he would be happy to agree fresh terms at The Valley, there must be some concern at the club that his current contract status could attract transfer interest if it is not sorted before January.
