Birmingham City are likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer following their promotion to the Championship.
Birmingham City are back in the Championship after a remarkable season under Chris Davies.
Given the huge ambition at St. Andrew, the former Spurs coach will be aiming for a double promotion, and whilst it’s a tough task, Blues have the financial muscle to compete with any at this level.
After their incredible spending spree 12 months ago, Birmingham aren’t in a position where they need to overhaul the squad. However, more backing is expected from the US owners, with the focus sure to be on quality over quantity.
And, if there’s one area the club could do with a high-profile addition, it’s at centre forward.
Jay Stansfield is an excellent player, but he isn’t a number nine who can play with his back to goal, whilst there are doubts about Alfie May’s ability to cope in the second tier.
So, talk of Che Adams returning to St. Andrew’s made sense, although those rumours have now been played down, with the Torino striker expected to stay in Italy.
It’s a shame for Blues that the Scotland international isn’t likely to join, but Adams is the calibre of player they should be targeting. With that in mind, we look at THREE other strikers who must be on Davies’ radar…
Like most of his teammates, the Luton Town target man endured a difficult season as the Hatters suffered a second successive relegation.
However, that shouldn’t detract from the fact that Morris has been a key figure at Kenilworth Road over the years, which included scoring 20 goals as they won promotion to the Premier League. He followed that up with 11 goals in the top-flight, which is a very respectable return.
So, a change of environment could be exactly what Morris needs to get back to his best, and he would be a very useful focal point for this Blues side.
Morris will bring others into play, he can win headers, and he is a leader, so the 29-year-old would bring a lot to the group.
This may seem ambitious, but it’s a move that could work out for all parties.
Fofana is contracted to Chelsea, but he isn’t going to get game time at Stamford Bridge, with the past 18 months spent out on loan.
The first six months came with Burnley in the Premier League, where the Ivorian scored four goals in 15 games and looked a threat.
Another temporary switch to Goztepe was finalised ahead of this season, but his time in the Turkish top-flight has been cut short due to a knee injury.
Fofana is expected to be back in time for next season, so Chelsea will surely send him out on loan, and Blues could be the perfect spot for the ex-Molde man, who the Londoners forked out £10m for.
If he can get up to speed, Fofana would be a huge asset to any Championship side, and if Blues could put an option to buy, he could enjoy an extended period in the Second City.
It was reported that Blues wanted Miovski when he was at Aberdeen, but it always seemed a long shot, and that proved to be the case, as he signed for La Liga side Girona, who also offered Champions League football.
So, we know Blues like Miovski, and it’s fair to say things haven’t gone to plan for the striker in Spain.
He has struggled for regular game time, and has managed just two goals in 17 league games, so the chance to move on may appeal to the North Macedonian international.
At his best, he could star in the Championship, with Miovski boasting the all-round game and technical qualities that Davies wants from his striker. He scored 26 goals in his final season with Aberdeen and will be looking to bounce back after a frustrating campaign out in Spain.
