Real Madrid are one step closer to bringing in central defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, after the 20-year-old reportedly gave the green light to their contract offer. Huijsen is believed to be prioritising a move to Los Blancos this summer.

Following recent reports that Real Madrid had sent a contract offer to Huijsen and his camp, Cadena SER now say that Huijsen has given the green light to join Real Madrid. He has been made aware of Xabi Alonso’s plans for him, and will discard the offers he has from Premier League sides in the process.

If Real Madrid can get a deal done with Bournemouth, then the plan is for him to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu after Spain’s Nations League fixtures in early June, and in time for the Club World Cup. Huijsen had become Real Madrid’s priority for central defence, and Alonso also signed off on the deal, with the decision to move for him taken by the club.

Real Madrid to begin negotiations with Bournemouth

The one potential hitch in the road is Real Madrid’s willingness to activate Huijsen’s release clause. The Spain international has a €60m release clause, but in Spain several reports claim Los Blancos will try to bring that price tag down, feeling it to be too expensive. The fact that it can be paid in three instalments is a potentially crucial point if Real Madrid do decide to activate it.

That said, Ben Jacobs is reporting that Los Blancos have informed Bournemouth that they are willing to trigger Huijsen’s release clause, a report that has been corroborated by Fabrizio Romano.

Premier League sides willing to pay Huijsen release clause

Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all willing to stump up the €60m, and theirs would be the proposals that Huijsen would discard. It has been clear for some time though that if there was a chance of a move to Real Madrid, then Huijsen would entertain it. He spoke of how proud he was of the links to Los Blancos in March, and is reportedly an admirer of the club.
