Starting with the Everton game last week, Chelsea have entered into what looks like a much easier run of fixtures compared to their last spell.
Of course, they immediately then dropped points against the Toffees. That’s football. But now they’ve got to take on a Fulham team at home who could also be surprisingly tricky to beat.
On the London is Blue podcast they tried to paint a picture of how the Whites are getting on – and concluded that the last thing we should be is overly confident, even at Stamford Bridge.
“Fulham are 9th in the Premier League table, only 2 points behind Man City. They have scored 24 goals, across 17 matches. They’ve a record of 6 wins 7 draws 4 losses. They’ve allowed 22 goals – so a plus 2 goal difference. They’re ten points behind Chelsea,”
So that makes them seem pretty weak – but they’ve taken points off big teams in the last few games:
“This is who Fulham are in the Premier League – a team that is very comfortable mid-table, potentially at time pushing a little further forward. Maybe that better start has a resulted in a little cool down over their last 5 – 4 draws and 1 win within that time period. They have played some better teams. They did get a 1-1 draw against Arsenal, a 2-2 draw against Liverpool. They also drew against Southampton though – so they have had some wonky results. So I guess everything is on the table! But it does feel as though they can go toe to toe and raise their game.”
Fulham manager Marco Silva prepares for a game.
We have a lot of firepower in the squad, and if we can score early and open the game up we will be confident. But after failing to find the net against Everton, and having seen Marco Silva’s team take points off Liverpool and Arsenal recently, we’re sure we’re in for a tough game today.
