Chelsea officials have spent the last couple of days sending out reports to the media outlets trying to defend their lack of transfer activity in January.
The squad still needs a new spine added to it, it needs a new goalkeeper, a dominant centre back, a physical defensive midfielder, a striker, and even a goal-scoring winger. All of that work to do even after the new owners have had five transfer windows so far and promised a squad rebuild within four windows. That has not happened in my opinion.
So January was a chance to at least address some of these positions, but they did not even address one. And fans are unhappy, and you get a sense that the club are feeling this and are therefore trying to makes excuses or provide reasoning for what they have done in a big article from The Athletic today.
They are also claiming that Jadon Sancho is seen as a potential superstar by Chelsea.
The report says that Chelsea still view Jadon Sancho as a potential superstar, and the relatively modest transfer fee limits the downside.

“Our sporting structure has a lot of egg on their face right now. It’s bad business across the board here. I mean, you bought players only to loan them immediately,” Presenter Nick Verlaney said.
You’re bringing back players who should have been with the squad all along. It looks like a lot of mismanagement all around. And if you ask me right now if Chelsea have a better squad for the second half of the season than they had for the first half – I think the answer is unequivocally: ‘no’.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s only incoming new signing for January was finally announced by the club late yesterday afternoon!
