Manchester City women’s first outing at the Etihad Stadium in 2024/25 is less than a week away.

Gareth Taylor’s side lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Friday 8 November, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30 (UK).

SPURS 1-4 CITY (JANUARY 2020)

Following Spurs’ promotion to the WSL in 2020, the first top-flight meeting saw City record a superb victory in the capital.

The visitors started brightly and snatched a commanding lead inside five minutes after Pauline Bremer and Ellen White both struck in the opening stages.

Goals then proved to be the order of the day with three more following before half-time.

Rianna Dean pulled one back from the penalty spot on 20 minutes, but Bremer grabbed her second of the match to restore City’s two-goal lead.

Then, on the cusp of the interval, Lauren Hemp scored our fourth and the match’s final goal to ensure we made the perfect start to the new year.

CITY 4-1 SPURS (OCTOBER 2020)

Due to the curtailment of the 2019/20 campaign following the COVID-19 pandemic, the first WSL clash between the teams in Manchester took place nine months after our success in London.

In what was an evenly contested first half, Chloe Kelly sweetly curled home the opener on 33 minutes for her first City goal, before the hosts turned on the style after the interval.

The England international doubled our lead from the penalty spot shortly after the break before Sam Mewis extended Taylor’s team’s advantage shortly after.

White then got her name on the scoresheet with a fine header ahead of Anna Filbey flicking home a consolation for Spurs.

CITY 1-2 SPURS (SEPTEMBER 2021)

Spurs’ only away win over Manchester City in the WSL to date came in somewhat controversial circumstances as the Londoners produced a spirited comeback to win 2-1 at the Joie Stadium.

Hemp had given us the lead in the sixth minute which was then cancelled out by Rachel Williams' 61st minute strike.

Then, in the closing stages, the ball struck Rosella Ayane’s hand before crashing in off the post and into the net via a helpless Karima Benameur Taieb.

The officials, though, deemed there to be no infringement and the goal stood, meaning Spurs collected three points.

CITY 7-0 SPURS (NOVEMBER 2023)

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw struck a first-half hat-trick when the sides last met in Manchester in an emphatic triumph for Taylor’s side.

The Jamaican first met a Leila Ouahabi cross to head into the net before she repeated the trick when diving towards Jill Roord’s ball and nodding past Becky Spencer.

Bunny wasn’t finished though, and completed her treble in remarkable fashion before the interval when bringing Laia Aleixandri’s pass down before firing on the turn.

Hemp and Rood extended our lead after half-time before Laura Coombs’ brace added the gloss to a fine evening for the Blues.

SPURS 1-1 CITY: 4-3p (MARCH 2024)

Another dramatic encounter with Spurs in March 2024 saw the hosts at Brisbane Road progress in the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals on penalties.

After a bright start by the visitors, Mary Fowler broke the deadlock when her deflected effort found the back of the net – representing our 800th goal as a professional outfit.

That looked more than likely to hand the Blues victory with the scoreline remaining 1-0 deep into second-half stoppage time.

But Bethany England dramatically equalised for the Londoners in the 96th minute when tucking into an empty net after an uncharacteristic break down in defensive communications.

The sides couldn’t be separated in extra-time, forcing penalties, where Spurs prevailed 4-3 to advance.
