Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri admitted that Southampton asked them about possibly signing their manager, Danny Rohl.
Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday have been involved in a few transfers recently. In August, the Saints also agreed to send talented midfielder Shea Charles on loan to the Championship club.
The loan spell was a huge success but now their relationship seems to have soured.
Yesterday, Southampton exercised their option to bring Shea Charles from his Sheffield Wednesday loan in January. Now, they could be tempted to loan him to their city rivals Sheffield United, instead.
Understandably, these developments haven't gone down well at Sheffield Wednesday. Now, their chairman has come forward to discuss another failed deal between the two clubs.
The move in question was Southampton's interest in signing Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.
Answering Sheffield Wednesday fans in Wednesday's fan forum, chairman Dejphon Chansiri said: "We mentioned (there is) something at the beginning we can’t go into detail. I can confirm there was contact from Southampton."
Southampton had been linked with hiring Danny Rohl as their new boss before bringing Ivan Juric. Rohl is a relatively younger manager than Juric and his consistent results in the Championship speak for themselves.
Further, Rohl had previously been Ralph Hassenhuttl's assistant at Southampton. Thus, a deal to sign him made sense and the Saints preferred Rohl above other options.
Still, nothing concrete happened regarding Southampton and Rohl in the end. The report also mentions that Dejphon Chansiri didn't opt to delve deep into Southampton's approach.
A possible reason for the failed Rohl deal could be related to Shea Charles' loan. Sheffield Wednesday might have wanted to keep Charles until June but Southampton may have denied earlier.
Thus, they also didn't entertain Southampton's interest in signing Danny Rohl.
