Spanish club Real Betis have entered talks with Manchester United to sign Antony on loan, according to Sevilla ABC (page 63).
The Brazil international has been a fringe player for the Red Devils this season. He has registered one goal from 401 minutes in all competitions.
Antony came on as a second-half substitute against Southampton yesterday. He squandered the opportunity to score into an open goal.
It is now reported that Betis are locked in discussions with United regarding a loan deal for Antony.
The La Liga outfit want a left-footed right winger in the squad, and they consider Antony as a market opportunity after Assane Diao’s sale.
Antony is ‘willing to leave’ Old Trafford to join them, but a deal could depend on United paying the major chunk of his £150,000 weekly wages.
The 24-year-old has failed to meet expectations since his move from Ajax in the summer of 2022.
His performances have dipped over the last 18 months. He is no longer an assured starter with the emergence of Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Antony is unlikely to get guaranteed minutes going forward under manager Ruben Amorim. This could be a reason behind his desire to leave on loan.
It could be a win-win situation for the winger and United. Antony can rebuild his reputation if he goes on to shine for Betis with regular goal contributions.
United could also secure a reasonable transfer fee in the summer if he were to impress.
