Manchester United have suffered a huge setback ahead of the transfer deadline day.

According to Sky Sport Germany, negotiations between Man United and Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel have ‘completely collapsed’.

Tel wanted to join United but ‘Bayern had rejected everything’ and the proposed transfer ‘will not happen at this stage’.

The Red Devils had been desperately seeking a new forward after sanctioning Antony’s loan exit earlier this month.

The urgency grew as Marcus Rashford neared a move to Aston Villa, further depleting their attacking options.

Bayern wonderkid Tel has struggled to secure regular playing time under manager Vincent Kompany this season.

With Bayern’s star-studded attack featuring Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman, it’s no surprise the young forward has found himself buried in the pecking order.

United head coach Ruben Amorim signaled the need for a new centre-forward by dropping Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee from the starting XI against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Both strikers were introduced in the second half but failed to impress, delivering lackluster performances as United succumbed to a 2-0 defeat.

Tel would have been a fantastic addition to Amorim’s ranks.

He possesses breakneck pace and was previously described as a ‘talented player‘ by former Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

United are reportedly eyeing Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku and Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey, but neither of them fit the bill as a traditional centre-forward.

With just over a day left in the transfer window, United may be forced to navigate the business end of the season with a depleted attack.

If they fail to secure a quality forward, INEOS will have no choice but to take full responsibility for their shortcomings in the market.
