Wagner has decided against taking the top job at Home Park, which has opened up an opportunity for others.
David Wagner has walked away from talks to become Plymouth Argyle's next manager.
This is according to the Daily Express, who believe the 53-year-old is no longer in contention to take the top job at Home Park.
Wagner has EFL experience under his belt from his time at Huddersfield Town and Norwich City, proving to be more of a success at the former.
Guiding the Terriers to the Premier League against the odds and even keeping them afloat in the top flight for more than one season, he did a superb job at the John Smith's Stadium and will be fondly remembered by Huddersfield fans for years to come.
In fairness to him, he also managed to guide Norwich into the promotion mix at the end of last term, though some didn't see that as a huge achievement considering they had the likes of Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe in their team during the 2023/24 campaign.
And following their heavy defeat against Leeds United in the play-off semi-final second leg, he was dismissed and replaced by Johannes Hoff Thorup, who will be keen to outshine his predecessor.
Wagner could have been set for a return to English football in the coming days or weeks, but it doesn't look as though he will be taking the job at Argyle.
The Pilgrims are currently on the prowl for a new boss, following Wayne Rooney's departure at the end of last year.
His exit didn't come as a surprise, considering he struggled for a decent chunk of his tenure, especially away from home.
Simon Hallett and other key figures on the Plymouth board are now exploring their options to see who could succeed him - and talks had taken place with Wagner.
However, the Daily Express have reported that the 53-year-old has walked away from negotiations and is no longer interested in taking charge of the relegation battle.
They may only be three points adrift of safety - but Pompey have a game in hand over them.
And considering how poor their away form has been in recent times, they need a miracle worker to come in and save them from the drop.
Having narrowly escaped relegation at the end of last season, Argyle know they have the potential to do that again, especially with other teams being poor this season.
But making the right appointment is crucial to their survival hopes - and the January window could also have a say in how well-equipped they are for their battle against the drop.
Wagner could have been a good appointment, but it seems as though that move won't happen now.
