Praising Mbappe’s leadership

Speaking to the press recently, France coach Didier Deschamps said that Mbappe’s commitment and work ethic make a difference even when he is not as effective in finishing chances.

Against Croatia, he struggled to convert opportunities, partly due to some outstanding saves from the opposition goalkeeper.

However, his involvement went beyond scoring—he was constantly pushing forward, creating spaces, and encouraging his teammates.

“Kylian is doing very well. He’s fit, he didn’t have the efficiency, but we don’t dwell on that.

“He’s present, involved on the pitch, making many, many efforts without having efficiency, but you also have to take into account that he had to deal with the Croatian goalkeeper’s saves, which are magnificent.

“He is committed as captain to the other players, of course. He assumes his role,” said the national team coach.

The challenge of facing Luka Modric

One of the biggest threats for any team facing Croatia is Luka Modric. The experienced midfielder continues to perform at an elite level, dictating play with his vision and technical ability.

Deschamps said that despite not always playing the full 90 minutes for Real Madrid, he remains a game-changer whenever he is on the field.

“Modric has been playing matches at this level for some time. He is a great player. He has always been decisive, and very influential. He plays for Real Madrid, he doesn’t always play 90 minutes, but he plays.”

The challenge for France is containing Modric, who expertly positions himself in areas where he can influence the game while avoiding heavy defensive pressure.

“He has the intelligence to move, to position himself in slightly neutral areas and find solutions through his passes,” added Deschamps.
