FLW's West Brom fan pundit has given two predictions for the club's January transfer activity
West Bromwich Albion find themselves in the mix for an automatic promotion place in the Championship this season.
Carlos Corberan’s side finished fifth in the table in the previous campaign, but a play-off semi-final loss to Southampton ended their hopes of a Premier League return.
It has been a strong start to this term, even if recent form has hurt their standing, with the team only three points behind second-place Burnley.
The Baggies have been outside the top flight since 2021, but are on a potential path back under Corberan.
The January transfer window could prove a decisive period for the club, as it will provide an opportunity for the Spaniard to strengthen his first-team squad for the second half of the campaign.
When asked to make two January transfer predictions, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess suggested that the club will be slow to act in the winter market.
He also believes that a player or two out of contract in 2025 could depart, naming John Swift and Grady Diangana as possible examples.
“Probably a recurring theme for the January transfer window for West Bromwich Albion is that very little will get done,” Burgess told Football League World.
“I would be very surprised if, within the first two weeks of January, Albion have made a signing.
“It’s usually towards the latter end of the window, where across the league has started to heat up, that’s when Albion start to get involved.
“I would probably suggest one of the many players who are out of contract in the summer probably will end up moving on.
“It might be the likes of Diangana or Swift, for example, one of them two might end up moving on.”
West Brom are currently fourth in the Championship table, eight points behind leaders Sunderland.
The gap to seventh place Watford is just one point, with the team failing to win any of their last six league games.
Four draws and two defeats have seen them fall out of the automatic promotion places, putting Corberan under some pressure to turn things around quickly.
Next up for Albion is a trip to face Luton Town on Friday night in an 8pm kick-off.
January represents an opportunity for West Brom to strengthen their side to aid their promotion push for 2025.
They must not sit this out and allow rivals to improve while they stand still.
They’ve made a positive start to this season, but their run of six games without a win indicates that some work is still needed for the squad.
