Palace announced on Monday that Freedman is leaving after eight years as sporting director at Selhurst Park.

And the 50-year-old has been offered a job with the Diriyah Company, which owns the Saudi second division club Al-Diriyah.

Al-Diriyah are located on the outskirts of Riyadh and are pushing to get into the Saudi Pro League.

Diriyah is the original home of the Saudi royal family and is set to be a big part of the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The BBC report Freedman is being lined up for a “multi-discipline” role, which he would “shape the performance philosophy of up to seven other sports under the Diriyah Company umbrella”.

There has been no confirmation whether Freedman has accepted the role but Palace have confirmed he is leaving to take up a role overseas.

Palace chairman Steve Parish said Freedman had been "instrumental in everything we have done over the past eight years" and losing him is a blow for the Eagles.

Freedman has overseen some superb Palace recruitment at Selhurst Park, including the signings of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Dean Henderson.

Freedman said: "To be leaving the club with a squad full of exciting talent led by an excellent manager, I truly believe the foundations are in place to be built upon.”

Iain Moody, who works closely with the Palace recruitment set up on a consultancy basis, is set to take on a more prominent position at Selhurst Park.
