World-renowned musician Ed Sheeran has apologised to Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim after gatecrashing his post-match interview on Sky Sports after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.
After the match, Amorim was being interviewed on Sky Sports when Sheeran interrupted the pitchside interview to have a conversation – on air – with Jamie Redknapp.
It was car crash television right in front of our eyes and Sky Sports was guilty of subjecting everyone to it. We shouldn’t be surprised, though. The same company hires Gary Cotterill to grill new United managers such as Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim after him. Although it’s a boring practice, they also hire the likes of Flex to air their views on their platforms.
The matchday coverage has fallen off a cliff. I genuinely don’t know anyone who enjoys it anymore. Most Reds I speak to find Gary Neville annoying on new levels.
However, Sheeran faced criticism on social media after the incident and took to Instagram to apologise to the new United head coach.
“Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn’t realise he was being interviewed at the time, was popping in to say hi and bye to Jamie,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram.
“[Obviously] feel a bit of a b—— but life goes on. Great game though, congrats on all involved x.”
Sheeran, who is a fan of Ipswich, became the face of the club after recently becoming minority stakeholder. He is also the front-of-the-shirt sponsor which says it all.
The glorified Karaoke star should have been told to get back into his box after overstepping his mark on Sky Sports. Nobody wanted to hear his thoughts on Ipswich being back in the Premier League.
It was a total mark of disrespect for Amorim, who had gone out of his way to do the interview in the first place.
