Erling Haaland reflects on some of his incredible milestones so far at Manchester City.
The Club recently announced that the Norwegian had penned a new nine-and-a-half-year deal to keep him at the club until 2034.
In his two-and-a-half seasons at City, Haaland has broken countless records, contributing to a historic Treble win in 2023 and a fourth successive Premier League title, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup success the following season.
To celebrate his contract extension, we sat down with Erling to talk through some of these milestones, including what he remembers most fondly since joining Manchester City.
Haaland surpassed Premier League legends Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who scored 34 goals each for Blackburn Rovers (1993-94) and Newcastle United (1994-95) respectively.
On his 35th (record-breaking) goal, which came against West Ham United, he said: “It was a huge moment for me.
"I was super happy and that [game is] a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.
“I think there's a chance [I could beat Alan Shearer's 260-goal record], yeah. I'm staying here for a long time now, so maybe. I'll do my best.”
When asked what his dad's - former City player Alf-Inge Haaland - reaction was to breaking the record: “Having him by my side all the time, for him to get to be around it and everything makes me really happy.
"He's happy as well, I hope. You’ll have to ask him yourself!”
Our number nine equalled Cristiano Ronaldo (105 matches) and pipped Barcelona’s Luis Suárez (120 matches) to become the fastest player to 100 goals for one club in Europe's top five leagues.
Sergio Aguero, the next quickest for City, took 158 appearances to achieve the same feat for the Blues.
On how he managed to hit the ground running at Manchester City, he said: “It's about having good people around you who can [keep] you on the ground and focused.
"And also people in the Club who motivate you and make you a better footballer.”
Haaland also became the quickest player to reach 40 Champions League goals, achieving the feat in only 35 appearances.
On the players Erling beat to reach the record: “When you look at the list, it’s a bit unreal.
“[It] gives me motivation to keep going, to do even better, to work even harder”.
Haaland is also the youngest player to reach 40 Champions League goals:
Haaland had a stellar start to his City career and broke a record right from the very outset, becoming the first player to score three hat-tricks in three consecutive home games in the Premier League.
Those memorable goalscoring displays came against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United in an incredible purple patch.
In doing so, Haaland also joined a list of Premier League players who have scored hat-tricks in back-to-back games (home or away), including Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba, and Ian Wright.
When asked for his favourite hat-trick for City so far, Erling had no doubts: “The home game against United. Yeah, for sure.”
Haaland broke new ground in the Premier League by winning the Golden Boot in each of his first two seasons at City.
Scoring 63 over the course of both seasons, Haaland’s brutal scoring prowess contributed massively to the Blues securing consecutive Premier League titles.
On his favourite City goal of the bunch, Erling clarified: “In Premier League or total?
"The [Borussia] Dortmund one, [but] I have to say I also like the one where I broke the [Premier League single-season scoring] record, the 36th goal in the Premier League against West Ham, the chip.
"But against Dortmund, it was nice.”
Although Haaland is the first player to secure consecutive Golden Boots in their first two Premier League seasons, there are two players who have won three in a row: Alan Shearer (1994/95, 1995/96, 1996/97) and Thierry Henry (2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06).
When asked whether he can emulate that achievement, Erling said: “I'll do my best, I'll try to become better and I have to score the chances I get.
"That's what I need to do, that's what I will try to do and we'll see in the end.”
Asked for his favourite moment in a City shirt, Haaland had a different sort of treble in mind...
“There are many amazing moments, but I think it has to be when we completed the Treble in Istanbul. That feeling there was ridiculous and amazing.”
City fans can be sure that they will be treated to many more ground breaking and record-smashing displays from our number nine.
