Everton offered a Champions League winning manager the job at Goodison Park two weeks ago, but were turned down.

The Toffees are currently in the process of being taken over by Roma’s owners, The Friedkin Group, and there has been big speculation over the position of current boss Sean Dyche.

Dyche could be shown the door at Everton or simply replaced when his contract with the club runs out at the end of the season.

Now it has been claimed that Everton have already offered Dyche’s job to someone else and that person is one of the biggest names in football.

According to Turkish daily Takvim (via Fotomac), Everton got in touch with Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho two weeks ago.

They offered Mourinho the job of Everton manager and were prepared to pay him a much higher salary than the €10.5m per year he earns in Turkey.

Mourinho though was not convinced by the proposal, or by Everton’s league position, and turned down the offer.

Whether Everton might yet go back in for the Portuguese remains to be seen.

Mourinho is trying to end Fenerbahce’s decade-long Turkish league title drought and is so far not swaying from that desire.
