Piotr Zielinski insists that Inter Milan are “not playing for the result” in their Champions League match against Monaco.

The Polish international spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. He also admitted that he isn’t a fan of playing in holding midfield, but will do so if it’s what the team needs.

Inter have just one match left to go in the “league” phase of the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri beat Sparta Prague yesterday. They secured a 1-0 victory which makes it a record of five wins, one draw, and one loss from seven matches in Europe’s top club competition.

Inter are therefore behind only Liverpool and Barcelona on points. They are level on points with Arsenal.

As such, Inter can say that they have one foot in the round of sixteen.

The Nerazzurri have not mathematically secured direct qualification for the knockouts. They need one point against Monaco next week to ensure they finish in the top eight.

Piotr Zielinski: “Inter Not Playing For The Result” Vs Monaco

After yesterday’s win over Sparta, Zielinski noted that “we knew it wouldn’t be easy to win here.”

“They haven’t been here in a while. But this was their first match in front of their fans, and they were charged up.”

“But in the end we managed the game well,” Zielinski continued.

“We dominated it, even if we didn’t manage to get the second or third goal to kill off the match.”

“What matters is the win,” Zielinski made clear.

On playing in holding midfield for Inter, Zielinski said that “When there’s a need, I’m always ready to make my contribution.”

“I don’t like playing there,” the 30-year-old admitted. “But when the coach asks me to play as the regista I have no problems. I do it with pleasure.”

As far as the next match against Monaco, Zielinski insisted that “we have to play our game.”

“And try to win, as we always do.”

“We can’t play for the result,” Zielinski made clear Inter are not just going to settle for a draw next week.

“We respect the opposition, but we’re aware of our own strength.”
