There is a reason that Alexander Isak is going to be one of the most in demand strikers in the world this summer.

After a couple of really impressive seasons with Newcastle he’s gone up a level this year, and looks like one of the best strikers in the world, let alone the division. He’s in his prime, he’s proven in the Premier League, and looks set to be a star for years to come.

The problem for Chelsea in all that is that he’s going to be very, very expensive. There’s no way Newcastle would let him go for less than a king’s ransom, and he himself won’t want to go anywhere without Champions League football and a big chance of winning trophies.

So what do the Blues do if Isak is off the menu? They certainly still need a striker, as their current predicament reminds us. Well, CaughtOffside are today exclusively reporting that the Blues are very interested in Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, an an “alternative” to Isak for this summer.

Frenchman Ekitike is seen as a “cheaper option”, and Chelsea – along with Arsenal – are very interested. However it won’t necessarily be ease – the report claims that Frankfurt are keen to keep the striker for “next season at least.”

Ekitike not the finished product – but with a top striker’s potential

Ekitike still has plenty of developing still to do, but he already looks a more finished product that Nicolas Jackson did when he arrived. After a dodgy move to PSG which wasn’t great for his career, the 22 year old is now very much back on track.

A fee of £60m is mentioned in this report, with potential add ons on top. He’s got 12 goals and 3 assists in the Bundesliga this season, and we can imagine that figure rising further should he finish strongly.
