Manchester United are monitoring six goalkeepers as they look to replace Andre Onana, but Diogo Costa remains the preferred option.

The Red Devils signed the Cameroonian as a replacement for David De Gea in the summer of 2023, but the latter has been largely disappointing over the last two campaigns, committing costly howlers on a regular basis.

So despite reports claiming that Ruben Amorim remains a ‘big fan’ of Onana, many believe the club would pounce on the opportunity to sign a competent replacement.

According to sources close to Stretty News, Man Utd have put together a six-man shortlist of potential replacements, and Costa has been identified as the priority target.

The 25-year-old is a Porto youth product who has now cemented himself as a protagonist for both club and country. He also stole the limelight with some of his ‘brilliant’ displays for Portugal at the Euro 2024.

Costa could be available for €45 million, but the Red Devils might face competition from Man City and Bayern Munich who are also in the market for a new goalkeeper.

In addition to Costa, Lucas Chevalier is also high on United’s shortlist. The 23-year-old Frenchman has recently admitted his desire to play in the Premier League. The LOSC Lille star would reunite with Leny Yoro if he ends up joining the Reds.

The list also features AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maigan might opt to change air in the summer after four years at San Siro.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale might emerge as a low-cost option following Southampton’s relegation.

On the other hand, Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen is a more appealing profile, but also more costly. The 22-year-old Dutchman has been highly impressive for the Seagulls this season.

Finally, Parma’s Zion Suzuki is another intriguing option. The 22-year-old has been one of the best revelations in Serie A this season.

So it remains to be seen if there will be a change of the guard between the posts at Old Trafford this summer.
