Those in the race for Mathys Tel are anticipating he’ll make a permanent switch to one of his Premier League suitors over a loan move to Manchester United – despite him favouring the Red Devils.
Indeed, it was claimed earlier this week by reputable Tottenham Hotspur journalist Paul O Keefe that the Bayern Munich wantaway was eyeing a transfer to the 20-time English champions amidst interest from Spurs, Aston Villa and Chelsea.
There is a verbal agreement in place between the North London outfit and Bayern for a £50.1m package, which the Germans are likely to be leaning towards, given they’ll be recuperating an up-front fee.
Unfortunately for United, the funds are simply not available mid-season to match such a sum – especially after agreeing a £25m deal for wing-back Patrick Dorgu, whom Fabrizio Romano confirms will arrive in Manchester on Saturday to put pen to paper on a long-term contract.

With only three days remaining for all clubs to finalise their business, Tel has been the subject of numerous approaches – including some from the Saudi Pro League. However, drawing the curtains on his European career at only 19 years old was unthinkable for the player, and he quickly turned down their proposals.
Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg said this afternoon: “Mathys Tel will not join Al-Ahli as he wants to play in Europe. But their interest was genuine. Saudi clubs expect him to join Tottenham or Aston Villa.”
The transfer reporter also revealed today that United had touched base with Bayern to try and gauge the conditions of a potential loan agreement.
Tel is taking his time to mull over all the options on the table, with increased game time at the forefront of his decision-making process.
