Fabrizio Romano reveals latest Viktor Gyokeres twist: “Man Utd yes, but…”

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal’s interest in Manchester United’s primary target, Viktor Gyokeres.
Both Premier League giants are looking to bolster their attacking ranks with a top-notch bomber next summer. The Gunners have been lacking a genuine marksman upfront. Gabriel Jesus is the closest profile they have for a Number 9, but he suffered an ACL injury during the FA Cup clash against Man Utd in January while attempting to tackle Bruno Fernandes.
As for the Red Devils, their current crop of strikers (namely Hojlund and Zirkzee) haven’t been prolific in front of goal this season, prompting INEOS to resort to the market.
United have been linked with several names, but Gyokeres has been considered a match made in heaven, especially due to his ties with Ruben Amorim, who brought him to Sporting CP in 2023.
However, the Sweden international’s astonishing scoring record this season (42 goals from as many appearances) meant he’s a profile desired by half of Europe.
Earlier on Monday, David Ornstein revealed Arsenal became the latest club to emerge as a serious challenger for Gyokeres’ signature.
In the evening, Romano added more weight to the story in the latest video transfer update uploaded on his official YouTube channel.

The transfer market insider reiterated Man Utd’s interest in the 26-year-old striker, but revealed that Arsenal could try to scupper the Red Devils’ plans, as their new sporting director Andrea Berta has been a keen admirer of the Sweden international since his tenure at Atletico Madrid.
Romano insists that Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak remains the Gunners’ top target, but the Magpies will try their best to keep him at St. James Park.
On the other hand, Gyokeres is a more affordable target, especially with Sporting agreeing to release him for a transfer fee of €65-70 million based on a previous pact between the two parties.
So while United will likely play a main role in the race for Gyokeres, luring Amorim’s old favourite to Carrington won’t be an easy task by any means.
