A massive frustration bubbling up for Chelsea fans at the moment is the sore point of Robert Sanchez.
Most fans didn’t want to sign him in the first place, were disappointed by his efforts last season, and couldn’t believe it when he was restored to number one status under Enzo Maresca, having lost it to Djordje Petrovic under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
The season so far hasn’t helped their image of him – he’s had some great games and made some great saves, but is still full of mistakes. His nerves freak out the defence, his passing is poor and he is remarkably shaky under high balls for such a big keeper.
Yet Enzo Maresca continually backs him, to everyone’s amazement.

Graeme Bailey, speaking exclusively so the Chelsea Chronicle, claims to have information that all the bluster from Maresca is just a smoke screen, to protect Sanchez. Inside the club, they’re seeing the same things we are.
“I know what everyone’s saying, but Chelsea are looking at goalkeepers. I can confirm their scouts are looking at goalkeepers. Work is being done,” the insider said.
“There’s people in Chelsea’s hierarchy that are not convinced Sanchez will deliver a Premier League title.”
He even claims to know one of the players they’re looking at: Zion Suzuki of Parma:
“Chelsea are looking at him. One of many who are. He’s a special player. Parma know good goalkeepers when they see one, and they’ve got one here. Fantastic talent, he could go for big money in the summer.”
The problem is that these sporting directors have already bought Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and young Mike Penders. Are they really willing to fork out for another stopper? We really hope they’re able to swallow their pride for the sake of the team and do just that.
