Fantasy Premier League: The best Matheus Cunha replacements

Fantasy Premier League managers have been rocked over the past week with a number of FPL favourites sidelined.
Matheus Cunha is the most transferred out player heading into Gameweek 28, after the Wolves forward’s red card last weekend. Cunha was sent off for repeatedly lashing out at Milos Kerkez during Wolves’ FA Cup exit at Bournemouth and faces a three-match ban.
It’s a blow to FPL bosses, with Cunha a firm favourite this season. The Brazilian has 13 goals and four assists this season and is ruled out of an enticing run of games, with Wolves facing Everton, Southampton and West Ham next.
We’ve looked at the best potential replacements for Cunha ahead of the deadline. For the purpose of budget, we’ve only included players priced below Cunha’s current £7.0m valuation.
Brentford’s brilliant double-act of Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have been FPL gold this season. The Bees duo have combined for 28 Premier League goals this season, all for a combined current value of just £14.5m.
Wissa is guaranteed game time and has scored in successive league games for Thomas Frank’s side. While Brentford’s upcoming run is tricky with clashes against Aston Villa (H), Bournemouth (A) and Newcastle (A), the West Londoners do play in Blank Gameweek 29 for those not intending to use a chip.
Joao Pedro is the form forward in FPL right now. The Brighton striker has returned 20 points across his last two appearances, ahead of this weekend’s home date with Fulham. Pedro has seven goals and six assists in FPL this season and, as an added bonus, is Brighton’s first-choice penalty taker.
For those looking to make up some valuable gains with a differential pick, Eddie Nketiah might be the route to go. The forward’s move to Crystal Palace has proven challenging, with the £30m recruit struggling to nail down a regular role.
Nketiah, however, looks likely to start this weekend following a horrible head injury for Jean-Philippe Mateta in the FA Cup last weekend. The 25-year-old has scored in successive games as a substitute for Palace, who are bang in form and face relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at Selhurst Park this weekend. Be warned, however, Palace blank in Gameweek 29.
A like-for-like replacement? Wolves’ upcoming run of games look enticing, with clashes against sides no higher than 15th in their next four.
Strand Larsen has been a valuable contributor to the club’s campaign despite being overshadowed by Cunha at Molineux. In the absence of the latter, the onus will be on the Norwegian to step up.
The 25-year-old has seven league goals this season and leads the Premier League for the percentage of shots on goal that hit the target (63.9%).
Look, hear us out. We’ve fell into the Darwin trap before but he’s on our radar for the weekend. As a one-week punt for anyone planning to use a chip in Gameweek 29, Darwin could be a differential to consider. Owned by just 1.9% of managers, Nunez was lively off the bench at PSG in midweek to set up Harvey Elliott’s winner.
With Cody Gakpo injured and Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota all in contention for rest this weekend, Nunez could lead the line as the Premier League leaders welcome bottom-of-the-table Southampton to Anfield.
