Fernandinho is delighted that City's winter transfer window business saw us add two more Brazilian stars to our squads.
19-year-old defender Vitor Reis moved from Palmeiras to City last month, with Kerolin Nicoli becoming the first Brazilian to join our women's side a day later.
Reis is a Brazil youth international that only made his senior club debut last June and immediately impressed to the extent that he was named in the Trofeu Mesa Redonda Team of the Year for all Brazilian football across 2024.
25-year-old winger Kerolin is significantly more experienced, having already represented her country on 44 occasions. At club level, she has plied her trade in her homeland, as well as Spain and the USA.
The pair join compatriots Ederson and Savinho in Manchester, while the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Fernando and Elano have also had significant spells at the Club.
Fernandinho, who played 383 times for City and won 13 trophies, is keen to see as many talented players from his homeland move to City as possible.
"It was really nice to see Kerolin as the first women’s player to sign for City," he began.
"City are always going for trophies and they have a really good team, to see Kerolin sign is really nice.
"It’s a proud moment to see the first Brazilian women’s player to play for City.
"Also, we’ve had Vitor Reis come from Palmeiras straight to the first team here. To have the opportunity to play for a big team like City with very good players around.
"I’m sure that their experience here will help them learn and they will be different players in the future. They are going to give everything for City to help in the best way possible."
Having already been here for four years before Ederson arrived, Fernandinho played a crucial role in helping our goalkeeper settle in.
He says that's typical of Brazilian culture, and that Ederson and Savinho will extend the same courtesy to the new additions.
"It’s just something we normally do, as Brazilians, to welcome people to where we are," he stated.
"We try to help the player and their family to settle in the best way possible. It’s something we do in quite a natural way."
