Former Huddersfield Town and Genk midfielder joins Sparta Rotterdam on loan from FC Twente | OneFootball

Sparta Rotterdam have announced the signing of Carel Eiting on loan from FC Twente. The 26-year-old central midfielder has joined the club until the end of the season. It does not appear that a purchase option has been agreed as part of the loan deal. Despite having played 21 games this season for Twente, with two goals and two assists, the side appear happy to let him join a Sparta side that are currently 16th in the Eredivisie.

The side from Rotterdam will be hoping that Eiting can help drag them away from the relegation battle. If the Eredivisie season ended now, they would be having to play in the relegation play-off. They are only two points behind Heracles, but they have played one game more. More concerning is the fact that Almere City are only three points behind them in the automatic relegation spots. Last season Sparta finished eight.

Eiting came through at Ajax before joining Huddersfield Town on loan for the 2020/2021 season. He then joined Genk but left to go back to Huddersfield in January 2022. After just six months in England he moved back to the Netherlands, playing one season for FC Volendam before joining Twente in the summer of 2023.
