According to L’Équipe, the match between France and Israel scheduled to take place on Thursday 14th of November is set for a record-low attendance at the Stade de France. The UEFA Nations League match is expected to attract between 15,000 and 20,000 spectators.
For context, the previous lowest spectator count for a match at the national stadium was 36,842 spectators for a Confederations Cup match against New Zealand on 22nd June 2003. The attendance for the match against the Israeli national team is set to be limited by the upper tier of the stadium being closed for the match. Absentees including Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud from the last matches played at the Stade de France could also explain a reasonable drop in attendees.
Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have caused French authorities to strengthen security for the match. Security fears have been heightened after the incidents that took place in Amsterdam, with clashes involving fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv before and after their match against Ajax.
