It’s been a challenging couple of weeks for Liverpool. They scored one goal in 180 minutes plus extra time against Paris Saint-Germain and then lost the EFL final to Newcastle this past weekend.

Liverpool are out of the Champions League after leading the group stage. Following their loss to the Magpies, they missed out on a chance to win a trophy.

Mohamed Salah didn’t score in either of those matches, and he’s facing significant criticism, especially with his role in the veteran attack being a key factor in his Ballon d’Or aspirations.

Is Arne Slot at fault for Liverpool’s recent poor form?

Nonetheless, rather than focusing on Salah, Sky Sports’ Gary Neville decided to blame someone else for the squad’s recent misfortunes.

The pundit offered a harsh critique of the Dutchman’s management in those three games that saw Liverpool not play like they have during this Premier League season, which has seen them run away with the league.

“They haven’t had anything as an attacking threat,” Neville said (h/t TEAMtalk). “What’s happened to them? We know they went out of Europe in midweek. They really have been way off it.”

“Newcastle didn’t just win, they battered Liverpool. It should’ve been three or four nil. Liverpool got a consolation goal. I find it difficult to be too critical, considering what it looked like they were going to achieve this season, but not many expected them to.

“Liverpool were poor vs PSG and Newcastle are a good Premier League team but they have wiped the floor with them. Liverpool’s legs have run out of steam but luckily for them they have a big enough lead in the league.”
