AC Milan will take on Juventus in the second Supercoppa Italiana semi-final tonight, and the crowd will be far greater than the first one, which was Inter vs. Atalanta.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report on last night’s game, which was Nerazzurri against Nerazzurri but in the stands there is a lot of yellow, the colour of the seats in the Al Nassr stadium in Riyadh. The first semi-final of the Super Cup makes clear the interest of the native fans.
More specifically, the tickets for the second semi Juventus-Milan sold out days in advance because the passion is strong for the two biggest clubs in Italy, and especially for Milan. On the flip side, those for Inter vs. Atalanta remained unsold.
The tickets sold for the first semi-final were 16,896 in total, which is about 67% of the 25,000 available at the King Saud. The crowd mostly cheered for Inter, who won 2-0, but there was a quite eerie atmosphere at times due to the empty seats.
Something similar happened last year, on even greater scale. Napoli-Fiorentina, the first semi-final, attracted just over 9,000 fans. The second, Inter-Lazio, came close to 21,000. For the final, there were 25,000 there.
The peaks are a thing of the past. The Supercoppa final in January 2023 between the two Milan clubs was played in the other stadium – named after King Fahd – and was watched by over 50,000 spectators.
