Gent are set for another busy summer of transfers. According to Het Nieuwsblad, a number of players are set to leave this summer and a few have already been told they will no longer be training with the first team ahead of the final match of the season for the side. While two of these are Andrew Hjulsager and Jordan Torunarigha, both of whom are out of contract in the summer, there are another two players who are both under contract for next season, but clearly no longer part of the clubs plans.

29-year-old midfielder Pieter Gerkens and 34-year-old central defender Stefan Mitrovic are both no longer part of the first team. Their large contracts and little return in terms of performances on these deals means that the club are hoping they can find new teams for both players in the summer. Mitrovic was also disciplined for an apparent argument with head coach Danijel Milicevic after he was not selected for the match against Antwerp.

Gent’s weekend defeat to Genk means that they cannot qualify for European football next season, which will be the first time in quite a while that the club are not involved in some form of continental football.
