The Sports Direction of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, in charge of Javier Mier, has decided that Gerardo Espinoza will be the coach of Chivas for the remainder of the Clausura 2025 and the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Who is Gerardo Espinoza?- He is 43 years old and was born in Guamúchil, Sinaloa.- He has coached Aucas of Ecuador, Tapatio and Tampico Madero of the Liga de Expansion MX, Atlas of the Liga MX and also the National Under 23 National Team.- His track record as DT includes 2 MX Expansion League titles (CL20 and CL23), 1 MX Expansion League Champion of Champions (AP22-CL23) and 1 Gold Medal with the Mexican Under 22 National Team in the Central American and Caribbean Games of El Salvador 2023.
His tenure at the helm of El TapatíoEspinoza arrived at the club to coach the Rebaño Sagrado affiliate in the Apertura 2022 and lived a very enriching period in which he lifted 2 titles; the first of them was the Clausura 2023 after an exceptional semester, as the Jalisco team finished as the best offensive team, and later they lifted the Champion of Champions of the Expansion League.
Knowledge of the squadDuring his time at the helm of El Tapatío, the Sinaloa-born tactician regularly used in his lineups four players who are now part of the Chivas First Team: Eduardo García, Mateo Chávez, Raúl Martínez and Miguel Gómez.
His style of playGerardo Espinoza likes ball possession, as he always tries to make his team the protagonist from the initial plan. In addition to this, he usually seeks to design good structures to put pressure on the opponent, something that Guadalajara has shown in their matches during the last few tournaments.
