Watford have enjoyed a solid campaign under Tom Cleverley as the team fight for a play-off place in the Championship.
The Hornets weren’t expected to compete this high up the table after a disappointing summer transfer window.
However, they have been consistently in the top half of the standings throughout the campaign, with Cleverley receiving a lot of praise for his work.
Planning will already be underway for the upcoming transfer window, where the club will be hoping to build on this promising first full season under the 35-year-old.
When asked what a dream summer window would look like, FLW’s Watford fan pundit Justin Beattie highlighted the need for at least one new striker, maybe even two.
He’s also urged the club to continue with Cleverley as manager, claiming that the stability of sticking with the same coach has been a breath of fresh air for the Hornets.
“I think a dream 2025 summer transfer window would look like the powers that be in charge of player recruitment actually recruiting players fit for the Championship that are ready to go that understand the league, that want to play for Watford, that aren’t distracted by outside influences,” Beattie told Football League World.
“It would also look like us getting a striker or possibly even two in.
“At the moment, our forward options are extremely limited.
“We desperately need a forward that knows the division, that can score goals.
“It would also look like us keeping Tom Cleverley, and not letting him go, and not replacing him with another head coach, that’s another thing that’s important we do during the 2025 summer transfer window.
“We need stability at the club, the merry-go-round of replacing head coaches has stopped for a season, and it’s been nice to be stable for a season without the upheaval of new head coaches and that kind of thing.
“So, keeping Cleverley, recruiting properly in the striking options, that’s what it would look like.”
Cleverley has done quite well as manager, and is now one of the longer-running head coaches at Watford in recent memory.
That stability has been good for the team, and now the club have to show faith in him by giving him the right level of backing in the summer.
Investing in youth has been a smart move for the Hornets, but some experience may also be required in order to make that step up to sustain a promotion challenge.
