Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch says he is enjoying comparisons to former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos thanks to his new role for Arne Slot’s side.
Gravenberch, previously a more attack-minded midfielder, has been converted into a number six under Slot this season and has impressed in his new position, helping Liverpool to establish a lead at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League table.
Asked about comparisons between him and Kroos, Gravenberch said: “It’s nice to hear that, of course, because Toni Kroos is a legend of the game. He did a lot of good things, so it’s nice to hear.”
Gravenberch also says he is loving playing a bigger role for the club this season having played a smaller part under Jurgen Klopp last season.
“For me, the first season was not that frustrating,” he said ahead of the Champions League clash with Girona.
“My aim was to play a lot more minutes than I had before and I did. Now, I am just happy to play 90 minutes again and be every game on the pitch and that I show myself. I am really happy to be part of this team.
“I think everyone can still improve – so can I. It is going really well but maybe I can do a bit more in defending. I am really happy with the performances I now have and so I have to keep going.”
