Guardiola's seven City wins at Old Trafford | OneFootball

Pep Guardiola boasts an excellent record at Old Trafford as City boss.

On his way to lifting six Premier League titles in his eight complete seasons, Guardiola has guided City to five wins at the home of our local rivals.

In fact, only Arsene Wenger (12) has ever won more Premier League games against Manchester United than Pep’s nine total wins.

We have also been victorious on the other side of town in two League Cup encounters in 2020 and 2021.

Ahead of the 196th Manchester derby this Sunday, we look back on our seven previous wins at Old Trafford under Pep.

Manchester United 1-2 City, 10 September 2016

Four games into Pep Guardiola's life as a Premier League manager, the Catalan was tasked with a trip to our greatest rivals.

It had been an excellent start, with three straight victories, but this was set to be a different challenge entirely.

Kevin De Bruyne nipped in ahead of United's Daley Blind and gave David De Gea the eyes to put us ahead 15 minutes in.

De Bruyne came within inches of making it two in the 36th minute but it mattered little as the ball bounced back off the post and straight to Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian duly tapped it into the empty net.

The hosts pulled one back a few minutes before half-time when Zlatan Ibrahimovic pounced on a loose ball but we held on for Pep's first taste of Manchester derby success.

While Pep's City had started excellently but fallen away in 2016/17, there were few signs of that happening again the following campaign.

By the time we set off for Old Trafford, we had already won 14 of our first 15 matches in the league.

David Silva's scrappy goal just before half-time looked to have set us on the right track for another victory but Marcus Rashford responded just before the break.

The winner then came shortly into the second half as Nicolas Otamendi reacted quickest following some pinball in the box.

With the title race between City and Liverpool seemingly going to the wire, the pressure was on for Pep's side at Old Trafford.

A nervy first half followed before Bernardo Silva broke the tension with a driving run and low shot that beat De Gea at his near post. The relief amongst the City squad was clear and it showed in our play too.

Leroy Sane added a second just over ten minutes later with a typical Sane hit from just inside the box.

A vital victory on the way to lifting the title in one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory.

Manchester United 1-3 City, 7 January 2020

The first of Pep's two Carabao Cup semi-final meetings at Old Trafford put us in a commanding position of the second leg of this one.

Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and an Andreas Pereira own goal had appeared to end the tie before the first half of the first leg was done and dusted.

Rashford pulled one back to give United hope but they couldn't turn it around at the Etihad a few weeks later.

A one-off one-legged Carabao Cup semi-final due to the condensed nature of the season, it was all to play for at Old Trafford in this one.

The match was missing the edge of a crowd, given that campaign was played out behind closed doors but there was the passing of City legend Colin Bell just the day before to spur us on.

John Stones opened the scoring by deflecting Phil Foden's cross home before Fernandinho's long range volley sealed it in the last ten minutes.

We would go on to lift a fourth successive League Cup title after a second consecutive semi-final defeat of United.

Manchester United 0-2 City, 6 November 2021

Our 2021/22 win at Old Trafford set off a 12-match winning run that ensured we kept pace with Liverpool midway through a relentless title race.

Having suffered defeat against Crystal Palace the week before, victory was essential in this derby.

City started on the front foot and we were rewarded in the seventh minute when Eric Bailly deflected a Joao Cancelo cross into his own net.

Bernardo Silva made it two just before the break by forcing home a cross at the near post to put Pep's City back on the track in a dramatic tussle for the trophy.

Manchester United 0-3 City, October 2023

City turned in a masterful display to beat Manchester United 3-0 with the best performance so far this season.

Erling Haaland set the Blues on the way with a first-half penalty that was scant reward for the dominance showed.

The Norwegian headed home his second just after half-time before setting up Phil Foden for a late third.

It was no more than the Treble winners deserved after what was a stunning 90 minutes against our cross-city rivals.
