Raphaël Guerreiro remains wary of the threat Celtic possess, but equally confident that Bayern Munich can advance to the UEFA Champions League last 16 stage.

The 31-year-old spoke to UK based tabloid the Daily Record where he stated the Bavarian club won’t take anything for granted despite the odds stacked heavily in their favour.

“This squad believes we’ll be in the quarter-finals at least but we have to take care of this phase now. Celtic have a good squad and they’re in the same position; they want to win. It won’t be easy for us, but we’re prepared for these two matches.

“I know the people see us as favourites. That’s normal but the reality is that both Bayern and Celtic have a 50-50 chance to go through,” Guerreiro explained.

The EURO 2016 winner continued by underlining the importance of playing next week’s second-leg at the Allianz Arena as a benefit. He and his teammates are also relishing the prospect of embracing the fiery Celtic Park atmosphere.

“The statistics and history of the competition won’t decide the outcome, that’s not football. To play the second match in Munich is a little advantage for us. But our challenge is to obtain a positive score in Glasgow.

“A Scottish rival is always complicated and the atmosphere at Celtic’s ground is sensational. But for us, that’s an attraction,” he concluded.

In the wake of Bayern’s 3-0 win over Werder Bremen last weekend, ex-Celtic loanee and current Bremen striker Oliver Burke had some words of warning for Die Rekordmeister.

“Celtic will be far from easy for Bayern Munich. Celtic will give absolutely everything they have against them. They will fight for every ball.

“I think Scottish fans and German fans are similar in culture, that’s why the Scots were so popular in Germany during the Euros. They are both a bit crazy – and they like to drink beer,” 27-year-old Burke added.
