Hansi Flick personally ‘blocked’ Barcelona star’s January departure after ‘deal was almost done’ | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick personally put a stop to the sale of a member of his defensive ranks during the winter transfer window.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Eric García as the player in question.

Eric’s name of course featured prominently in the Spanish media headlines throughout much of the January window.

This came after the likes of Girona and Como expressed a keen interest in luring the Spanish international away from Barcelona.

In the end, Eric was convinced to stay put for the remainder of the campaign, before reassessing his future in the summer.

And, as alluded to above, the leading voice behind as much was none other than Hansi Flick.

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano:

‘The deal with Como was almost done for €7m fee plus add-ons.’

This came after Barcelona’s headmaster stepped in to put an end to the negotiations, reiterating to Deco and co. Eric’s importance in his squad.
