Manchester United winger Antony is poised to leave the club and join Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the season, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
Antony has failed to come anywhere near justifying his status as the second-most-expensive player in United’s history. He cost the Red Devils a whooping £86m when he joined them in the summer of 2022 from Ajax, as Erik ten Hag’s marquee signing.
He has since scored 12 goals, three of which came in his first three Premier League games.
Antony has managed just one top-flight goal since April 2023. His playing opportunities under Erik ten Hag dwindled and he has failed to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford.
Indeed, the Brazilian has yet to start a Premier League match under the Portuguese coach so far this term.
It recently emerged that Betis were close to reaching an agreement with United over Antony’s loan transfer to the Spanish outfit.
Manuel Pellegrini is believed to be a fan of the 24-year-old forward and believes he can find his feet again at Estadio Benito Villamarín.
Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that everything is in place for Antony to complete his switch to Betis, where he will ply his trade for the next six months.
Romano wrote on X, “Antony to Real Betis, here we go! Verbal agreement in place between all parties with Man United too.”
“Documents being checked; then time for travel and medical tests.”
“United will let him leave on loan deal with 𝐧𝐨 buy clause. He’ll be formally back to United in June.”
The Red Devils will be counting on Antony to impress at Betis, which could help draw interest from potential suitors in the summer transfer window.
