Blackburn Rovers are reportedly interested in signing Reading defender Tyler Bindon.
That's according to journalist Alan Nixon, who claims that Blackburn are currently "heading the race" for Bindon ahead of the January transfer window.
Bindon joined Reading from Los Angeles FC last summer, and he was one of the shining lights in a difficult campaign for the club last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in 44 appearances in all competitions.
Premier League giants Arsenal reportedly sent scouts to watch Bindon in action last season, and he has also become a regular for New Zealand at international level over the past year, scoring his first goal for his country in their 8-1 win over Vanuatu during the recent international break.
, and he has been crucial for Ruben Selles' side, who currently sit eighth in the League One table, level on points with the play-off places.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and amid the ongoing takeover uncertainty at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Nixon says that Reading "may have to cash in" on him in January.
When asked if he believes the takeover situation will impact the club's ability to keep hold of Bindon, FLW's Reading fan pundit
Johnny Hunt admitted that the defender may need to be sold in January to bring in funds, but he believes the New Zealand international could secure a better move than Blackburn.
"I saw that Blackburn want Tyler Bindon, but to be honest, he's too good for them," Johnny said.
"I can see him playing at a better level than the Championship, he's got that ability.
"Obviously for us we want to keep him, but I think he's linked to Kia Joorabchian, the wonder agent, which isn't good as we know he's all about the money.
"Hopefully Tyler knows he's on a good thing with Reading as he's getting the game time, the fans are supporting him, we want him to be there and he's got his own song.
"It's a tricky one because we all know the ownership situation, and his contract is up in the summer.
"It's unnerving, but I guess, like everything, you just hope things get resolved as soon as possible and we can just focus on what's going on on the pitch.
"If we need the money in January and the ownership is not resolved, then a player like Tyler would probably have to be sold to keep the club going for a few months, which is really sad, but not a surprise.
"Hopefully it won't happen."
Reading supporters will understandably be concerned as rumours about interest in Bindon start to emerge, and given the club's ownership situation, they will be vulnerable to losing him in January.
After Rob Couhig's proposed takeover collapsed, current owner Dai Yongge is in a period of exclusivity with another prospective buyer, but there have been no updates on the progress of negotiations since early October.
With little sign of an imminent breakthrough, the Royals may need to sell some of their stars in January to keep the club running, and with his contract set to expire in the summer, Bindon may be available for a cut-price fee.
That could open the door for Blackburn to make a move for the New Zealand international, and should he continue to impress over the coming months, it would be no surprise to see other clubs join the race for his signature.
