Inter Milan face a major obstacle in their pursuit of striker Jonathan David in the form of the Canadian’s high wage demands.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews. They report that David is asking for wages of €6 million net per season.
Inter have made no secret of the fact that they want to make David their latest big name free transfer coup.
The Lille striker will turn 25 this season. At the end of the campaign when his contract with Lille expires, he’ll have fully established himself as a Champions League striker, while still likely having his peak ahead of him.
Therefore, if Inter can secure David’s signature on a free transfer, it would certainly represent a smart piece of business.
Inter have been in talks with David’s representatives for some time now.
The Nerazzurri are trying to lay the groundwork well in advance.
That is how Inter made other big free transfer signings like Andre Onana, Marcus Thuram, Piotr Zielinski, and Mehdi Taremi.
But there is one big obstacle in Inter’s way.
Even though David would not command a transfer fee next summer, the former Gent striker wants to capitalize by making high wage demands.
The Corriere della Sera report that David want €6 million net per season.
And that figure is certainly enough to give Inter pause.
