Manchester United could seal the transfer of Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras under incoming manager Ruben Amorim, according to Alvaro Magalhaes.
The former Benfica player seems concerned about Amorim’s move to Man Utd and what it could mean for Carreras’ long-term future at his current club.
Amorim will surely know Carreras well from his time coaching in Portugal, where he’s become really highly rated for the fine work he’s done at Sporting.
Carreras has also done well in the Portuguese league, despite previously struggling in a spell at United as a youngster.
The 21-year-old now looks like he could be worth bringing back to Old Trafford, and perhaps Amorim would make sense as a manager to get the best out of him.

Carreras could surely be an upgrade on the injury-prone and inconsistent Luke Shaw, and the Spaniard also looks like a good tactical fit for Amorim, who prefers to play with wing-backs.
This could give Carreras plenty of license to go forward and contribute to the attack, perhaps more so than we’ve ever really seen from Shaw or from others like Tyrell Malacia.
Magalhaes has spoken to Record about this, expressing his fear that Amorim will swoop for Carreras.
“I fear that Ruben Amorim wants him at Manchester United,” Magalhaes said of Carreras.
“It seems to me that he has the quality to be one of the first options and looking at the squad, I believe that with the new coaching staff he could become a possibility again, especially because the new coach knows him very well based on what he saw from him at Benfica.
“It would be a lot if Benfica had the ability to not let him escape, but now the decision is not just in the club’s hands.”
